CranioSacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a very gentle hands-on therapy which promotes restoration of tissues and balancing body systems. An effective treatment for pain and dysfunction in the body, it also promotes mental tranquility and releases stress.
The techniques and principles of CranioSacral Therapy were developed by John E. Upledger, DO, in a clinical research setting. CranioSacral Therapy has been reported to treat a variety of conditions, including:
Concussion and Traumatic Brain Injury
Migraines and Headaches
Chronic Neck and Back Pain
Autism
Stress and Tension-Related Disorders
Motor-Coordination Impairments
Infant and Childhood Disorders
Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
Chronic Fatigue
Fibromyalgia
TMJ Syndrome
Scoliosis
Central Nervous System Disorders
Learning Disabilities
ADD/ADHD
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Orthopedic Problems
What to Expect
Fully clothed, lying comfortably on a massage table, you will experience a soft touch at a slow pace. The therapist's hands apply very gentle pressure for a sustained period of time, working subtly and gently to release strain and create more relaxation and connectivity in the body. This method eases tensions in a way that the body does not resist. Rather than fighting with the body, we are retraining it to function in a more relaxed and connected way.
Because the technique works powerfully with the nerves, many clients experience a very profound rest, deeper than a normal sleep. As nerves relax, the tissues fed by these nerves also relax, automatically adjusting to a new state of homeostasis. Muscles may let go of tensions, bones may realign, organs may release toxins, and the senses may become sharper.
After a session, some people are so relaxed that they need some quiet time to readjust before going back to normal activity. It's best to give yourself 15 minutes before your driving, and also recommended to refrain from strenuous physical activity for a few hours following the session.

As this therapy reeducates the body to a new level of homeostasis, the body may continue to process the effects of the session for 24-48 hours following the treatment. You may expect to experience changing energy levels and a shift in your symptoms during this time.
How Many Sessions
A typical treatment plan for most common complaints is 3 to 4 hour-long sessions, scheduled weekly. Packages are available.
Patients typically notice significant improvements in pain levels and body function within 24-48 hours of treatment. While a single session can have lasting impacts on musculo-skeletal alignment, organ function, mood, and mental clarity; a series of sessions is recommended in cases where the client desires to more completely integrate the changes over the whole-body system, creating a more fully balanced and longer lasting impact. A series of healing sessions is also ideal for those who suffer from more acute or persistent issues, such as chronic pain, loss of mobility after surgery, or nervous conditions.
Best results are achieved through regularly scheduled sessions. The number of sessions varies according to the age and severity of the issue, the extent of involvement of the body, the level of stress in the patient's life, and the specific area of the body affected.
How It Works
Craniosacral Therapy regulates the flow of the cerebrospinal fluid which buffers and nourishes the spine and brain. This normalizes the environment around the central nervous system and enhances the body's ability to self-correct. When the nerves have regained their normal homeostatic function, all related tissues also become better functioning, more healthy, and more responsive to stress.
